But… I do care deeply about other women and girls like me who in many ways everyday have to pay for being born female. The women that work too long hours, earn too little or nothing at all, the women who pay in blood just for being Miss So-and-So The girls that marry too young coz they don’t have a choice, have too many kids coz they don’t have a say in it but are tied down most of their lives caring, loving and sacrificing for these kids they didn’t want. I could go on and on but I digress. So, officially I have been disqualified from “feminism” by some but who minds. I am what I am.
Someone please tell me about “feminism” again? . Looking on from the sidelines, We are winning the fight yet losing ourselves – — just a wee bit.
I have had the priviledge to witness women at work, busy doing their thing – know what I mean? The thing they do when they get to “EMPOWERED”. There is a swagg, a walk, a certain pitch and tone of voice. Which in itself is okay, hey. Each to her own.
The only irritating thing is when you meet one of those who wear arrogance like a badge of honour. The ones who talk too loud and too fast. Expounding points they dont need too. Going on like they are preaching a gospel when all they got is their opinions. Interupting the opinions of others like they aint worth a thing. No one can speak for anybody, on what authority does any one woman speak for all of us. We reserve our right to an opinion, we reserve that from men-kind and we reserve that from you. Yes, maam. Still I digress. When feminism gets ugly…
I have seen women fight over a lot of things: men, money, men, and did I say men?! Pardon me. It is not my intention to make light of such madness. I call it madness because in my view there is no need for such. In my mind there is enough of both, money and men to go round. Anyway; The ugliest fight of all is the one for respect.
Hell hath no fury than a woman scorned by another woman! Yes, that’s the way that well known saying should read. There is almost no drama on this earth that can equal the fight when a woman thinks another woman has dissed her. Wait a minute, getting between a woman and her money or her man is disrespect right? Guess that’s why women fight so hard over those 2 things most often. lolll
Jokes aside though. Its a men’s world. Women and girls have fought long and hard for the little respect that they got outside of being some man’s wife and some child’s mother. It has been a long protracted battle to get society to think we are worth our mantle outside of the home. Proving your worth in the home is easy. You just clean up and cook real good, smile at everyone and feed them. Even easier in the bedroom. But in the work place and in social circles its a battle and most women aint in it to lose. There is a hierachy to it you see and those who have risen from the bottom of it like to be looked up to, adored, consulted, respected, feared. YES, I said it. Feared. Women, when they have it yield their power like a god’s rod. Men are harsh lords but let’s face it women can be worse.
I do not mean to rubbish womanhood and everything we have worked so hard for. Granted it took a long time to even get here and we are humans after all – we have no obligations to be nice to each other just coz we all women. There is no global sisterhood, there aint a black sisterhood either. Men scramble up the ladder and so do we. All is fair in love and war. Just saying, though. Lest we forget.
The entire ado about gender inequality is that some people held and mis-used power over us. There is no excuse for us to do the same, else how different are we from dictators and despots, patriarchs and monarchies. You are not by law your sisters keeper, only if you should choose it is it required of you. But…Whether in a big or small way if we use our position to block others, lord over them or just be plain selfish. We become the demon that plagued us.
